FEATURES

The secret of making the Ohrid Pearl is still one of the best-kept secrets of this family that makes pearls combined into creative pearl necklaces and bracelets, and has been passed down from generation to generation for the fourth generation.

PRODUCTION METHOD

When we talk about pearls, we always think of them as being found in the shell, but the Ohrid Pearl has a more specific method of production. The Ohrid Pearl is not found in a shell, but rather is made by taking the most shiny (inner) part of the shell, processing it well, and obtaining the desired shape – a nacreous grain.

The second pearl processing process is coating the already obtained nacreous grain with an emulsion obtained from the scales of the Ohrid fish – plašica.

TRADITION AND ETERNITY

Long ago, there were several models of Ohrid Pearl necklaces that emphasized certain events such as weddings, celebrations, visits, proposing to a girlfriend, etc.

They were named as per the occasion.

  • An old-fashioned braid that the more serious ladies and gentlemen adorned themselves with for celebrations and formal occasions.
  • A maiden’s necklace was owned by almost every married girl, because at that time it was customary to ask for the bride’s hand with this necklace.

UNIQUE CREATIVITY

The Risteski family offers a rich collection of unique handmade jewelry.
